New Smoke Detectors Installed – What Do You Need to Remember?
The property owner is now responsible for acquiring and maintaining smoke detectors, and new smoke detectors have been installed in nearly all of our apartments. The final installations are currently underway – well done, us!
You are still responsible for ensuring that your smoke detector is working properly:
- Test the smoke detector once a week and after any long absence by pressing the test button for at least one second. The smoke detector is working if it responds with an alarm sound. The alarm will stop when you release the test button. Stand at a safe distance from the smoke detector during testing to protect your hearing. If you notice a malfunction, report it to your building’s maintenance service as soon as possible.
- If the smoke detector beeps every 43 seconds, the batteries are running low. Do not remove the batteries yourself—report the issue to the maintenance service.
- Do not remove the smoke detector if it activates, for example, while cooking. Press the pause button and ventilate the apartment by opening the window(s).
- A smoke detector does not replace insurance, so make sure you have a valid home insurance policy.
